Adding to the aesthetic appeal of a lawn are the plantings that are placed strategically throughout the yard. Meandering paths can be built that lead the eye to a focal point of interest, such as a garden seat, a shady gazebo, or an arbor covered with flowing flowers.

Along the foundation of the house, curved flower beds can have small trees placed at or near corners of the house. Perennial bushes and flowers will add to the combination meant to ease the stark look of house sitting on dirt. The eye will be drawn from lawn in the foreground, to plantings at the base of the foundation and on to the architecture of the home itself. A small fountain placed near a seating arrangement, can also be soothing to look at and listen to.
